Igor Shesterkin/Shestyorkin (born 30.12.1995) is a Russian ice hockey goaltender. He has played in NHL since 2019 with the New York Rangers.

Early Career

Igor Shestyorkin played as a youth with Krylya Sovetov Moscow. He was selected 43rd overall in 2012 KHL Draft by Spartak Moscow. He played his first season (2012-13) with Spartak at the MHL level – representing MHK Spartak. Shesterkin made his KHL debut at the following 2013-14 season. He still played mostly at the MHL level in that season and helped MHK Spartak to win MHL Championship. On 6.6.2014, Shesterkin signed a contract with SKA Saint Petersburg. On 28.6.2014, Shesterkin was drafted in the fourth round, 118th overall in the 2014 NHL Draft by New York Rangers.

Igor Shesterkin was very good with the SKA Saint Petersburg – in season 2016-17 his save percentage was 93,7%, in season 2017-18 93,3% and finally in his last season 2018-19 95,3%. In season 2018-19 his regular season goal against average was 1,11 and it was best of the KHL.

New York Rangers

On 3.5.2019, Shesterkin signed two-year contract with New York Rangers. Shesterkin started his season with the Rangers’ minor league affiliate team – Hartford Wolf Pack in AHL. He played good and Rangers recalled Shesterkin to play NHL.

On 7.1.2020, Shesterkin made his NHL debut – he made 29 saves when the Rangers won Colorado Avalanche 5-3. Shesterkin played 12 games in season 2019-20 and won 10 of them. He is one candidate to follow King Henrik Lundqvist as the starting goalie of the Rangers.

International Play

Igor Shesterkin played once in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championships and won a silver medal (2015). Shestyorkin has played three times in the IIHF World Championships – he has won two bronzes (2016 and 2017). Shesterkin won gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, but he did not see any action, because he was third goaltender in team Russia.
