Connor McDavid (born January 13, 1997) is a Canadian hockey player. The skilled centre forward is a captain of Edmonton Oilers. Despite his young age, he is already now a respected player with some personal awards – many say that he is the best active player in the game. He has played in four NHL All-Star games and he was awarded Art Ross Trophy for being a leading scorer in the league in 2017 and 2018. Moreover, he was awarded with Hart Memorial Trophy in 2017.

Junior career

McDavid played in Ontario Minor Hockey Association before entering OHL league at the age of 15. His first team was Toronto Marlboros. He played his three OHL seasons in Erie Otters. During his junior years, McDavid got Jack Ferguson Award in 2012 and Emms Family Award in 2013. McDavid’s skills were evident and his point scoring and incredible speed in OHL was widely recognized – and finally, Edmonton Oilers drafted him as first choice in 2015.

With McDavid, the Oilers had something to build on for the future years. After all, his hockey IQ was excellent, his skating was phenomenal, and he had the ability of making other players look better as well. And he had a tremendous shot indeed.

Edmonton Oilers

In his debut season in Oilers, McDavid scored 48 points in only 45 games, as he missed 37 because of operation in November 2015. Before season 2016-17, he was named as a team captain of Edmonton Oilers – being the youngest captain in the history of NHL. In his second season in NHL, McDavid scored 100 points and was the leading scorer on NHL.

Before season 2017-18, McDavid signed eight-year extension to his contract with the Oilers. During the season, he scored three hat-tricks and also had one four-goal night. McDavid has formed one of the most dangerous pairs on ice with Leon Draisaitl, the German left wing, who made his debut in Edmonton Oilers in season 2014-15. During the recent seasons, this pair has been a major contributor in Edmonton Oilers scoring.

International career

McDavid has a successful international career already now behind him. He was in the team that won U18 World Championship for Canada in 2013. He was in the Canadian team in 2014 and 2015 U20 World Championship games. In 2015, Canada won the tournament. Next year, McDavid was in Canadian senior team to win World Championship. McDavid was playing also in 2018 World Championship tournament, where Canada finished in fourth place.

Other interesting stuff

As a child, McDavid was always so skilled player that he had to play with the older children. After school years, McDavid also planned to attend the university in order to play for Boston University team – nevertheless, he decided to go for OHL instead.

Up to date, McDavid’s most effective season in NHL had 116 regular season points scored. During his time, Edmonton has made it only once in the play-offs, so McDavid has only 13 play-off games played until now.

McDavid is from Ontario, and his original favourite team in NHL is Toronto Maple Leafs.
