Patrik Laine (born 19.04.1998) is a Finnish ice hockey winger. He has been playing in the NHL since 2016 and he has played his whole NHL career with Winnipeg Jets.

Early Career

Patrik Laine played his junior years with Tappara. He made his Liiga debut at age 16 with Tappara during the 2014-15 season. In that season, he played most on Loan with LeKi in Finnish second league, Mestis. 2015-16 season was total breakthrough season to Laine. He made 33 (17+16) points in 46 games at regular season. Tappara and Laine went to the playoffs and finally won 2016 Liiga championship title. Laine made 15 (10+5) in 18 playoff games and was awarded Jari Kurri Trophy as Liiga’s 2016 playoff MVP. Patrik Laine was drafted 2nd overall by Winnipeg Jets in the 2016 NHL Draft.

Winnipeg Jets

Patrik Laine signed three-year contract with Winnipeg Jets on 3.7.2016. He made his NHL debut on 13.10.2016 against Carolina Hurricanes – Laine made goal and assist in his first NHL game. On 19.10.2016, Laine scored his first hat-trick in NHL against Toronto Maple Leafs. Laine made 64 (36+28) points in 73 games as a rookie. In season 2017-18, Laine set a new NHL record for the longest point streak by a teenager in NHL history (14 games). In a regular season Laine made 70 (44+26) points in 82 games and placed second for the most goals scored in regular season, behind Alexander Ovechkin’s 49 goals. Patrik Laine scored 12 (5+7) points in 17 games at playoffs. He helped the Jets to won franchcise first playoff series ever as they beat Minnesota Wild 4-1. They also won Nashville Predators 4-3, but Vegas Golden Knights won the Jets 4-1 at Conference Finals.

In 2018-19 season, Laine started poorly, making only 5 points in first 12 games. On 24.11.2018, Laine made five goals against St. Louis Blues – becoming to first person since Johan Franzén in 2011 to do it. He ended regular season with 50 (30+20) points in 82 games. Winnipeg Jets and Patrik Laine reached playoffs again, but was eliminated by the St. Louis Blues in the first round. On 27.9.2019, Laine signed a two-year contract extension with the Jets. In 2019-20 season, Laine made 63 (28+35) points in 68 games.

International Play

Patrik Laine played with Team Finland in the IIHF World U18 Ice Hockey Championships 2015. Laine Scored 11 (8+3) points in 7 games and helped Finland to won silver medals. Laine won a gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He made 13 (7+6) points in 7 games and was named to the tournament All-Star Team. Laine was selected in the 2016 IIHF World Championships – he made 12 (7+5) points in 10 games and led the tournament in goals scored. Laine and Finland won silver medals after they were defeated by Team Canada 2-0 at the final.
