Sebastian Aho (born 26.07.1997) is a Finnish ice hockey center. He has been playing in the NHL since 2016 and he has played his whole NHL career with Carolina Hurricanes.

Early Career

Sebastian Aho played his junior career with Oulun Kärpät. He always played with older guys and in season 2013-14 he made debut in SM-Liiga – he played his first game 15.2.2014, Aho was only 16 years old then. Sebastian Aho played three games in that season. In season 2014-15 Aho played 40 games and made 16 (5+11) points. Highlight of his season was game seven at finals against Tappara – He made a winning goal in second extra period and Oulun Kärpät were champions of the SM-Liiga in 2015. Sebastian Aho was drafted 35th overall at the 2015 NHL draft by Carolina Hurricanes. Aho played one more season with Oulun Kärpät and he was one of the best players of the team – he was the best point scorer of Kärpät. In the 2016 playoffs Kärpät took Bronze-medals and Aho was chosen to the All-Star – line of the SM-Liiga.

Carolina Hurricanes

Sebastian Aho signed three-year contract with Carolina Hurricanes on 13.6.2016. He made his NHL debut on 13.10.2016 against Winnipeg Jets – he made his first point (assist) in the NHL at that game. His first season was good and his regular season points were 49 (24+25) – he was Hurricanes’ second-best point scorer after Jeff Skinner. In season 2017-18. Carolina Hurricanes missed NHL playoffs – Aho developed quickly and that season he made 65 (29+36) points in 82 games.

During the 2018-19 season Aho tied NHL record for recording at least one point per game from the start of the season (12). Same season Aho was selected to participate in the 2019 NHL All-Star Game. Caroline Hurricanes ended 10 years break and they reached playoffs at season 2018-19 – Aho led the Hurricanes in scoring in the playoffs (five goals, seven assists). On 7.6.2019, the Hurricanes re-signing Aho to five-year, 42,27 million dollars contract. In season 2019-20 Aho continued to improve his game – he is currently one of the key players of the Hurricanes.

International Play

Sebastian Aho won a gold medal at the 2016 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships. He was alternate captain of the Finland and was the second best at the points in the tournament. He made his Finnish senior team debut on 11.2.2016. He was selected in the 2016 IIHF World Championship and he won a silver medal.
