Boston Bruins is an ice hockey team based in Boston. It was founded in 1924 and Boston Bruins is one of the Original Six teams, along with New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks, Toronto Maple Leafs, Montreal Canadiens and Detroit Red Wings. Original Six term means that those six teams competed NHL before its 1967 expansion.
Team History
Boston Bruins is the oldest NHL team to be based in the USA. Boston Bruins won their first Stanley Cup 1929 and they took two additional Stanley Cups at 1939 and 1941. Big turning point at history of the Bruins was 1966 when the Bruins signed Bobby Orr, one of the greatest players of all the time. Orr was Rookie of the Year 1967 and next season Orr and the Bruins started an all-time record – they went to the playoffs 29 straight seasons. Boston Bruins won Stanley Cup 1970 and 29-year Stanley Cup drought came to end – they beat St.Louis Blues 4-0 at Finals.
Boston Bruins won their next Stanley Cup 1972 – they beat New York Rangers 4-2 at Finals. The Bruins was dominant team long time and they reached NHL Finals 1974, 1977, 1978, 1988 and 1990 but lost those Finals. Next time Boston Bruins reached Stanley Cup Final at season 2010-11. This time they were better team and won their 6th Stanley Cup by beating Vancouver Canucks in Game 7. Boston Bruins have continued to be one of the NHL powerhouses and they reached Stanley Cup Finals also season 2012 – 13 (lost to Chicago Blackhawks 2-4) and 2018-19 (lost to St. Louis Blues 3-4).

Currently, the General Manager of Boston Bruins is Don Sweeney. The current head coach Bruce Cassidy was appointed to his position in 2017. The team is owned by company called Delaware North Companies. Boston Bruins has two minor league affiliates, those being Hartford Providence Bruins in AHL league and Atlanta Gladiators in ECHL league.
Bobby Orr – the greatest player of all time?
Bobby Orr joined Bruins for the 1966-67 season – the Bruins was very bad during that season, but Orr gave big hints of his future domination and won Calder Trophy as a Rookie of the Year 1967. Bobby Orr played ten seasons with Bruins and sets many unbelievable records – Most points in season by a defenceman (139 points at season 1970-71) and Best plus-minus by any position player (+124 at season 1970-71) are records that might never been broken. List of awards that Bobby Orr have been won is long – Hart Trophy 3 times, Norris Trophy 8 times, Art Ross Trophy 2 times, Conn Smythe Trophy 2 times and list goes on. Orr suffered knee problems throughout of his career and by 1978, Orr had undergone over dozen knee surgeries – after sitting out entire 1977-78 season Orr tried to make a comeback – unfortunately that won’t work and he needed to retire at age 30.
Ray Bourque – 21 seasons with the Bruins
Ray Bourque was another Boston legend and he currently holds records for most career goals, assists, and points by a defenceman in the NHL. Bourque played 1518 games with Bruins and made 1506 points. He won Norris Trophy 5 times. He won Stanley Cup once, but not with the Bruins. Bourque played his two last seasons with Colorado Avalanche and won Stanley Cup there (season 2000-01).

Phil Esposito is one of the greatest NHL player of all time, he played 9 seasons with the Bruins and won two Stanley Cups. If watched current Bruins, one player stands out – Slovak giant Zdeno Chára. 206 cm tall Chára is current captain of the Bruins and he has been played 14 seasons with the Bruins.
