Winnipeg Jets is an ice hockey team based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Jets has played under two different franchises: first in seasons 1972-96 (1972-79 in WHA league and 1979-1996 in NHL) and then from 2011 onwards. The later franchise played as Atlanta Thrashers, 1999-2000 being their first season in NHL. Atlanta Trashers made it only one time to Stanley Cup play-offs and sadly they never won a single play-off game in NHL.

Neither of the Jets franchises have won Stanley Cup. The current Jets franchise does not have any significant achievements during the history in NHL. The original Winnipeg Jets franchise was relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in 1996. They won three Avco World Trophies in the 1970’s – which was the championship of the WHA league.

Basic information

The team colours of Winnipeg Jets are polar night blue, aviator blue, silver, red and white. The current key personnel include General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff and head coach Paul Maurice. Jets have two minor league affiliate teams: Manitoba Moose in AHL league and Jacksonville Icemen in ECHL league. The home arena for Jets is Bell MTS Place. The capacity of the arena is appr. 15 000 for ice hockey matches.

Short history of current Jets

When the franchise relocation was announced in late May 2011, the interest in the team was huge. The season tickets sold out in the matter of minutes. The name of the new team was announced after that. In 2014-15 season, Winnipeg Jets qualified to Stanley Cup play-offs. In 2017-18 season, Jets advanced to conference finals, where they were defeated by Vegas Golden Knights.

Current Jets star players – Blake Wheeler

Blake Wheeler has played in Jets since 2011-12 season and he is the current captain of the team. He has improved during the decade and has recorded two 91-point seasons in a row, resulting NHL All Star invitations both times. He is especially known for his great assisting skills.

Bryan Little – always reliable

Also Brian Little is a long-time player in the Jets organization. The reliable centre has been very consistent in his career and always one of the best point scorers in the team. Thus, he is really appreciated in the Jets organization.

Patrik Laine – goal scoring talent

The gifted Finn debuted in NHL and Jets in season 2016-17. Laine is an important part of the team, as he is a good goal scorer. However, the Finnish international has been matured as a player and is nowadays more versatile – giving more advance to his team. Laine is just in the beginning of his journey in NHL.

Andrew Ladd – two-time Stanley Cup winner

Andrew Ladd won Stanley Cup two times before joining the Jets – in 2006 with Carolina Hurricanes and in 2010 with Chicago Blackhawks. The skilled left winger spent five seasons in Winnipeg and one season before that in Atlanta Thrashers. Ladd was an important part of the team for all his time in the organization.
